Some of our fondest memories of years gone past centre around the media that we interacted with, either deliberately or by chance. You will often hear of people speaking about movies and television programmes that they watched back in the day. As the conversation grows, people begin to share wonderful memories that are brought to mind by remembering these shows, and soon enough warm smiles spread across the conversationalists' faces as they relive the days gone by. You may also have come across people who berate modern art forms, which they consider to be soulless cacophonies that should never see the light of day, let alone be broadcast to the masses. Optical and auditory pollution, they call it.
The advertising industry has also been around for quite a while, and some of the creations of yesteryears bring to mind fond memories of products that have been used since the 20th century; products that a certain generation interacted closely with. Some of these items are still around today, whether in their original or varied forms. Others, sadly have ceased to exist.
Thanks to technology, what was previously only available in the recesses of our psyche has been, in a sense, resurrected. In the spirit of #ThrowbackThursday, we want to share with you some old TVCs with you. Take a look and relive the memories of times gone by. For the more statistically inclined, you can evaluate how changing times and technology have affected consumer perception and behaviour, product positioning, sales messaging and even the quality of the actual production.
